44 Years After Their Maui Wedding, Sharon Osbourne Recalls Ozzy’s Last Request To Her

by Dana Daly

Ozzy Osbourne

Fifteen months after losing Ozzy, Sharon Osbourne still goes to see him. Asked by the BBC’s music correspondent Mark Savage whether she visits her husband’s grave, the 74-year-old answered as if it were the easiest question in the world. “Of course, every day,” she told the BBC in an interview published October 26, 2026. “I can see him from my window.”

Ozzy Osbourne died at home in Buckinghamshire, England, on July 22, 2025, at 76, and the new conversation arrives just as the concert film Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning opens in cinemas worldwide on October 28. Sharon also went back to their last night together and the simple thing he asked of her, a moment that makes more sense once you know how far these two traveled to get there.

How Did A Promoter’s Daughter End Up Running Ozzy’s Life?

Their story began in a music office in the early 1970s. Sharon was the daughter of Don Arden, the tough rock manager who handled Black Sabbath, and she was working for her father when she first met the band’s wild young singer. “We first met when I was 18,” she wrote on their 40th anniversary in 2022, adding that over the years they had been “friends, lovers, husband & wife, grandparents and soulmates.”

Romance came later. When Black Sabbath fired Ozzy in April 1979 over his drinking and drug use, Don Arden sent Sharon to Los Angeles to look after his investment, and she ended up managing Ozzy’s solo career herself. The Blizzard of Ozz band and “Crazy Train” followed, and so did love. They married on July 4, 1982, in Maui, and by 1985 they had three children, Aimee, Kelly and Jack.

The rock star life that made Ozzy rich nearly destroyed the marriage before it reached its seventh anniversary.

What Happened The Night In 1989 That Almost Ended Everything?

On September 2, 1989, after a long binge that followed the Moscow Music Peace Festival, Ozzy sat across from Sharon at their English home and calmly told her, “We’ve come to a decision that you’ve got to die.” She recalled those words in the 2020 A&E documentary Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne, explaining that he then lunged at her and she reached for a panic button. Ozzy said in the same film that he remembered nothing until he woke up in a jail cell in Amersham and asked an officer why he was there. He was charged with attempted murder.

Sharon dropped the charges, and Ozzy went into rehab for months. She admitted she weighed walking away. “What is going to be the best for my kids? What is going to be the best for me?” she said of that time. She chose to stay, and millions of Americans got to know the result when MTV’s The Osbournes ran from 2002 to 2005, with Sharon steering the noisy household and its cameras through her own cancer diagnosis in 2002.

The marriage was tested once more in 2016, when they separated after Ozzy’s affair with a hairstylist became public. They reconciled, and on Mother’s Day 2017 they renewed their vows at the Wynn in Las Vegas. “For me, this was actually our real wedding day,” Ozzy told Hello! magazine. “This is the one that I will remember.”

Eight years later, with his health failing, Ozzy had one more thing he wanted to do.

Why Did Sharon Choose A Garden Over A Graveyard?

Thousands of people attended the procession. People left flowers, balloons, and photos of Osbourne at spontaneous memorials, including the Black Sabbath bridge and the musician’s childhood home.

One of the founders of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath died on July 22 at the age of 76. Two weeks earlier, Black Sabbath gave a farewell concert in their hometown of Birmingham, reuniting for the first time in 20 years in their classic lineup, with Ozzy Osbourne himself as lead singer.

On July 5, 2025, Ozzy reunited with the original Black Sabbath lineup at Villa Park in his hometown of Birmingham for Back to the Beginning, performing from a black throne because Parkinson’s disease had left him unable to stand. Sharon has already described how he ignored a grim warning from his doctors to play that farewell show, and she told the BBC the weeks that followed were some of the happiest of his life. “He was just floating for those last 17 days. It was great. It was joyous,” she said.

When he died, she buried him on the grounds of their home, which is what he asked for in his memoir I Am Ozzy. “There was no way I could put Ozzy in a public graveyard,” she told the BBC. “There’s no peace because people want to come and they want to pay their respects.” She wanted him, as she put it, “to rest and just be.”

The grief hasn’t eased much with time. “You’ve lost the love of your life, so you don’t just wake up and go, ‘I’m fine now. I’m cured,'” she said. Then she went back to the last hours they shared.

What Did Ozzy Ask Sharon The Night Before He Died?

Ozzy had been restless that night, and Sharon first described it last December on Piers Morgan Uncensored, telling Morgan he “was up and down to the bathroom all night” before waking her at about 4:30 a.m. This week she told the BBC more about those hours. “We’d spoken in the night. Ozzy had woken in the night, and he asked me to kiss him twice, and I did,” she said. “And then he said, ‘Hold me, hold me tight,’ and I did.”

Sharon was asleep when, early that morning, Ozzy went downstairs for his usual workout and suffered a heart attack. “And then the next thing I know, it’s early in the morning, and someone comes rushing into the room saying, ‘Come down now,'” Sharon recalled. “I ran down, and that was it.”

Ten months ago she told Piers Morgan what still haunts her about that night. “If only I’d have told him I loved him more,” she said. “If only I’d have held him tighter.” After 43 years of marriage, a near ending in 1989 and a second wedding in Las Vegas, his last request was the plainest one a husband can make, and she was there to answer it.

“You never get over it,” Sharon told the BBC. “But you learn to live with it, and that’s what I’m trying to do.” The garden where he rests is right outside her window, and she goes out to him every day.
