Barry Williams Reveals the Brady Bunch Crossover He Wishes Had Happened

Barry Williams just turned 72 on Sept. 30, and the milestone comes as the longtime TV favorite continues looking back on the sitcom that made him a household name. Best remembered as Greg Brady on The Brady Bunch, Williams recently shared one classic-TV idea he still wishes viewers had gotten to see.

According to Parade, during an appearance at Retro Con 2026, Williams revealed that he would have loved to see the Bradys cross paths with another famous television family from the same era. The Barry Williams Brady Bunch story quickly turned into a fun “what if” when he suggested a musical showdown with The Partridge Family.

Barry Williams’ Crossover Idea For ‘The Brady Bunch’ Involved the Partridges

When someone asked Williams which show he would have liked The Brady Bunch to interact with, he had an answer ready. “I thought it would have been fun if the Brady Bunch could have had a music-off with the Partridges,” he said.

Williams’ most famous role was as oldest son Greg Brady on the 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch/Wikipedia.

Williams explained that The Partridge Family already had a strong musical identity, while the Brady cast added choreography. He pushed back on the idea that the shows were rivals, saying their relationship was more cooperative. Both aired on the same network and night, with The Brady Bunch leading into The Partridge Family, an arrangement he believed helped both shows.

Music remained an important part of The Brady Bunch franchise. The cast recorded several pop songs in the 1970s before reuniting for The Brady Bunch Variety Hour in 1976. Williams nearly missed the reunion while appearing in Pippin on Broadway but returned partly because he wanted to explore music further.

Years later, he remembered the variety show with particular affection, telling fans at Retro Con that it ranked among the most fun projects he ever worked on. That makes the unrealized Barry Williams Brady Bunch crossover even more entertaining to imagine. With one family known for harmonies and another known for musical performances and choreography, the episode could have delivered exactly the kind of colorful, upbeat spectacle that defined 1970s television. At 72, Williams still seems to enjoy revisiting those memories and considering the possibilities that never made it to the screen. For longtime fans, his dream of a Brady-Partridge musical faceoff adds one more charming piece of nostalgia to two of the era’s most beloved family sitcoms.
