79-Year-Old Diane von Furstenberg Goes ‘No Filter’ In Bold Swimsuit Selfie

Diane von Furstenberg gave followers an unusually candid look at how a fashion legend gets ready for New York Fashion Week. The 79-year-old designer shared a mirror photo of herself in a black one-piece swimsuit, wearing a white sheet mask and stacks of colorful bracelets as she prepared for the busy week ahead.

According to PageSix, rather than polish the image for social media, she made its lack of editing the point. Declaring herself “79 and no filter,” von Furstenberg encouraged followers to “OWN IT,” continuing a message about confidence and aging that she has repeated for years. Andy Cohen echoed the sentiment in the comments, while Jenna Lyons celebrated the designer as a legend.

Diane von Furstenberg Embraces Aging Without Hiding It

The Fashion Week post fits naturally with the designer’s long-standing willingness to talk openly about getting older. She has previously discussed choosing not to pursue plastic surgery and admitted that accepting physical changes has not always felt easy. Instead of pretending otherwise, she has made honesty about aging part of the way she presents herself publicly.

Even mishaps have become opportunities to reinforce that philosophy. After a fall in Los Angeles left her with a noticeable black eye, she shared photographs of the bruising rather than hiding it. Her message remained familiar: acknowledge what happened, take care of yourself, and keep going. She summed up that outlook with a phrase that has become something of a personal motto—owning it, she said, is “the secret of survival.”

Her confidence has always been part of the brand.

That attitude feels especially fitting for the woman who helped change women’s wardrobes with the wrap dress in the 1970s. Von Furstenberg built her fashion identity around ease, independence, and helping women feel comfortable in their own skin, ideas that still echo through the way she talks about beauty decades later.

Now, at 79, she appears just as interested in showing the reality behind fashion as she is in presenting its glamour. A swimsuit, a sheet mask, and an unfiltered mirror became enough to make that point ahead of another New York Fashion Week. The image may have shown the preparation before the polished clothes and runway moments, but its message was larger: getting older does not require disappearing, apologizing, or pretending time has stood still. For a designer whose career has long centered on women owning their style, the sentiment feels entirely on brand.
