WATCH: Grand Ole Opry Tribute To Dolly Parton Stars Late Singer’s Niece

by Ruth A

Published August 31, 2026

The Grand Ole Opry turned into a place of remembrance over the weekend as family, friends, and fellow country artists gathered to honor Dolly Parton just days after her death. The Nashville institution dedicated its Aug. 29 show to the late country legend, filling the evening with performances that celebrated both her music and the people closest to her.

According to People, one of the night’s most emotional moments came from Parton’s niece, Jada Star, who stepped onto the stage to perform a song deeply connected to their family history. The Jada Star Dolly Parton tribute carried extra meaning because the two had previously recorded the song together, turning the performance into both a public farewell and a personal family remembrance.

Star, whose real name is Jada Andersen, performed “The Orchard,” a song she and Parton had previously shared on the 2024 family album “Smoky Mountain DNA: Family, Faith, and Fables.” The song’s imagery about family trees, memories, and generations carrying stories forward felt especially poignant in the days following Parton’s death.

After finishing the performance, Star thanked the audience and offered a reassuring message to her family, telling them they were going to be alright. Earlier that day, she had admitted on Facebook that she was moving through what she described as a fog of sadness but said she did not take the honor of performing on a stage her aunt loved so much lightly. The evening also featured tributes from Carly Pearce, Kathy Mattea, Ketch Secor, Molly Tuttle, Channing Wilson, and Belle Frantz before the musicians closed the show with “9 to 5” and a surprise appearance from Jelly Roll.

Parton’s relationship with the Grand Ole Opry stretched back decades. She was first introduced to the famous venue at just 13 years old by Johnny Cash, long before songs such as “Jolene,” “Here You Come Again,” and “9 to 5” helped turn her into one of country music’s most recognizable figures. That history made the Opry a fitting setting for musicians and relatives to gather in her memory.

Star’s presence also reflected the musical legacy running through Parton’s extended family. The daughter of Parton’s sister Freida, she followed her aunt into music and released her debut album, “Long Way Home,” with Barry J in 2018. After Parton’s death was announced, Star told followers that her family was grieving alongside fans and that she planned to step away from social media for a short time. The Jada Star Dolly Parton performance ultimately became more than another tribute on a star-filled program. It connected the country icon’s public legacy with the private family stories she treasured. On a stage where Parton’s own dreams began taking shape as a teenager, her niece used a song about memory and family to help carry those stories forward.
