Kelly Ripa Misses ‘Live’ Due To Painful Surgery, Husband Shares Recovery Update

Fans tuning into Live with Kelly and Mark noticed an unfamiliar face beside Mark Consuelos when Kelly Ripa missed the show’s latest episode. Musician Kevin Jonas stepped in as guest co-host while Consuelos explained that his wife was recovering from gum graft surgery and following strict instructions from her dentist.

Consuelos revealed that Ripa had postponed the dental procedure for years after her dentist first recommended it. According to him, she jokingly assumed she would no longer be hosting the daytime program by the time the surgery became necessary.

The recovery has required careful attention. Ripa must avoid talking, stick to soft foods, skip drinking through a straw, and resist checking the healing area. Consuelos admitted he has been reminding her to follow every instruction, even refusing her request to inspect the surgical site himself.

While discussing the recovery, Kevin Jonas joked that staying silent might be the hardest part for the longtime television host. Consuelos laughed along before revealing that he and his wife have been communicating through text messages instead of conversation. He also explained that, despite Kelly Ripa usually handling dental appointments without much discomfort or even numbing medication, this procedure proved much more painful. That alone convinced him the surgery was serious. Even so, he emphasized that she continues to recover well while taking time to heal properly.

For now, viewers can expect guest hosts to join Consuelos until Kelly Ripa returns to the studio. Although no official return date has been announced, her husband assured fans that she is making steady progress and looks forward to being back on the show once her recovery is complete.
