According to Film Stories, the film’s original distributor, Row K, is facing financial difficulty and is now looking for another company to help bring the movie to cinemas. Neon has reportedly emerged as a likely partner, though the deal could push the movie’s release into the first quarter of 2027.

The Movie Has Faced Several Behind-The-Scenes Changes

The new Cliffhanger stars Lily James as a mountain climber who races to save her kidnapped father in the Dolomites. Pierce Brosnan plays her father, taking over a role that once had Sylvester Stallone attached. Sylvester Stallone was set to return as Gabe Walker but left the project over a reported pay dispute.

The movie also went through several creative changes before filming began. Ric Roman Waugh was once attached to direct it, then left. Jean-Francois Richet was also linked to the project at one point. Russell Crowe was reportedly involved for a time as well, but he also moved on. Jaume Collet-Serra eventually came in to direct, with filming beginning in October 2024.
