Fans of Elvis Presley gathered in Memphis on January 8 to celebrate what would have been the King of Rock and Roll’s 91st birthday. The event coincided with the U.S. premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s new Elvis documentary, EPiC, offering audiences a rare look at the singer’s life. Attendees wore Presley-themed attire, creating a festive and heartfelt tribute outside Graceland.
According to reporting from People, the celebration focused on remembrance and the lasting impact of Elvis Presley. Graceland leaders highlighted how the Elvis documentary preserves his legacy for new generations. Even decades after his passing, Elvis’ influence continues to resonate through his music and now through this cinematic project.
A Historic Premiere for the Elvis Documentary

The EPiC Elvis documentary compiles previously unseen footage, restored and condensed into a 90-minute film. Joel Weinshanker, head of Graceland Holdings, called the project a “Holy Grail” for fans. The film features Elvis’ 636 sold-out shows in Las Vegas and also highlights intimate moments with his family and close friends.

During the premiere, attendees joined filmmakers and members of Elvis’ inner circle in cutting an eight-tiered EPiC birthday cake. They sang “Happy Birthday” together, celebrating both the king and the release of the Elvis documentary. The film offers a unique mix of concert spectacle and personal insight, giving viewers a deeper understanding of Elvis’ life and artistry.
Preserving the King’s Legacy Through Film

The new Elvis documentary provides a fresh perspective on Elvis Presley’s career and personal life. It balances his larger-than-life stage presence with intimate moments, showing the man behind the icon. Fans and critics praised the film for making Elvis’ story accessible while preserving the magic that made him a global legend.

EPiC will screen in IMAX theaters for a one-week exclusive beginning February 20, with a nationwide release on February 27.
