Mia recently ended her 14-year-long acting hiatus as she returned to the screen, and longtime fans of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off are excited. The 57-year-old actress played Sloane Peterson alongside Matthew Broderick in the 1986 classic, which quickly became a fan favorite. This week, Sara made a rare red carpet appearance in celebration of her first film in over a decade.
Sara’s comeback role is in The Life of Chuck, a new movie based on Stephen King’s novella and directed by Mike Flanagan, who worked on Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House. Mia Sara revealed that Mike’s movie project pulled her back into acting after a long break from the industry.

Before taking on The Life of Chuck, Mia Sara had been mainly out of the spotlight since her last film role in 2011, when she appeared in Dorothy and the Witches of Oz. Since then, she has been living quietly in the English countryside with her husband, Brian Henson, son of The Muppets creator Jim Henson, spending her time reading, cooking, and riding horses on their 17th-century farm.
Although she admitted that the attention surrounding her return has been a little overwhelming, Sara said she is grateful for the warm reception from fans. She did not make any promises about future projects, but she noted that she was happy to be part of Flanagan’s work and would be open to working with him again.
Breaking the silence
Although Sara had no plans to return to Hollywood, she opened up about the discussion that changed her mind. After meeting Flanagan’s wife and longtime colleague Kate Siegel, she got an offer from Kate and eventually a movie role. Sara plays the grandmother of the main character, Chuck, portrayed at different stages of life by Jacob Tremblay, Benjamin Pajak, and Tom Hiddleston.
The film also features other stars, including Mark Hamill, Karen Gillan, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It follows three chapters in the life of an ordinary man who had an extraordinary journey of impact. The Life of Chuck opens in select theaters this Friday and will be released nationwide on June 13.
