Julie Newmar, who is best known as the first woman to play Catwoman on television, was seen out in Los Angeles last week. The 91-year-old actress rarely appears in public, but this time, she was seen riding a motorized scooter on the street.
Newmar wore a blue button-up shirt, gray sweatpants, fuzzy slippers, and a wide-brimmed hat to protect her from the sun. Her outfit was a clear shift from the sleek black catsuit she wore in the 1960s Batman TV show. Most fans did not immediately recognize her.

Julie Newmar mostly keeps a low profile, but she still makes occasional appearances related to her Catwoman legacy. In June 2024, she showed up at a fan event wearing cat ears and signing autographs. She has attended similar events over the years, including CatCon and Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con, usually wearing cat-themed outfits.
She remains slightly active on Instagram. On May 13, just two days before her sighting, she shared photos of blooming flowers in her garden, likely taken at her home in L.A. Earlier this month, she also posted a clip from one of her old Catwoman scenes with Adam West. Though she only appeared in 13 episodes of the original Batman series, many of them rank among the show’s most popular.

Since Newmar’s version of Catwoman first aired in the ‘60s, several actresses have played the role. Eartha Kitt took over in later episodes of Batman while Michelle Pfeiffer played a darker version in Batman Returns. Halle Berry starred in a solo Catwoman movie, and Anne Hathaway played her in The Dark Knight Rises. More recently, Zoë Kravitz played the character in The Batman (2022) alongside Robert Pattinson.
Outside of the Catwoman role, Julie Newmar had other screen appearances. She starred in the 1960s show My Living Doll and showed up in George Michael’s “Too Funky” music video. In 1995, she made a cameo as herself in the film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.
