Gene Simmons is responding to growing criticism over his controversial “Roadie for a Day” fan experience, which costs a hefty $12,495. Although the singer is facing backlash online, he says the steep price reflects “astronomical” insurance costs and legal risks. Yet, many continue to slam the offer as excessive, while he stands by the package’s importance and cost.
Simmons is excited about this opportunity to give fans a firsthand experience of what it feels like to go to a show, set the stage, meet other fans, and have fun like a crew member. Therefore, he keeps promoting the package as exclusive and immersive, far beyond a typical meet-and-greet.
Gene Simmons’ roadie package
In an interview with New Jersey’s 95.9 The Rat, Simmons clarified that his roadie experience is not a means to exploit fans. The package consists of a full day with Simmons and his band, starting at the hotel, where the fan receives a detailed rundown of the schedule. The experience also includes meals with Simmons, helping set up the stage, attending soundcheck, spending time backstage, and even stepping onstage during the performance.
A signed Gene Simmons bass guitar is also included, which Simmons suggests accounts for part of the cost. Only one fan is allowed per show, and Simmons has explained that this limit is necessary due to “litigious” culture. He noted that offering the package to multiple people would raise insurance costs significantly, adding to the financial and legal responsibilities involved.
Price breakdown
Simmons noted in the interview that much of the $12,495 fee covers potential liabilities and shared that the package is an elite experience for fans willing to invest in a rare backstage perspective and not a mass-market offer. But fan reactions remain divided.
Some view the price as a rip-off, while others see it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. However, Gene Simmons has shown no sign of scaling back the offer. He is scheduled to resume performances in May with his solo band. However, 17 shows have been postponed, leaving fans waiting for updates and hoping the tour will go as planned.
