Co-actors and fans agree with Cage on the impact Kilmer had in the film industry.

Kilmer was multi-talented and committed to each role, leaving behind a formidable legacy. From his portrayal of Jim Morrison to playing Iceman in Top Gun, he left his mark on the world. Cage lamented the passing of Kilmer as a wholesome person to work with as he recalled their experience on the set of Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. Cage complimented Kilmer’s dedication, sense of humor, and passion. In The Doors, which is Cage’s favorite Kilmer movie, he completely transformed into iconic singer Morrison, portraying his voice, mannerisms, and essence.

Despite delivering an impressive performance, the Academy snubbed him for a nomination, a decision that to this day is a bewildering one to many. Like Cage, Kilmer’s fans also believed that he was long overdue for the Oscar. Aside from The Doors, he starred in several classic movies that could have made the cut too.
