in 2023, Bed Bath & Beyond, arguably the top household name in home goods, faced significant financial challenges, leading the company to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. At that time, the retailer operated 360 Bed Bath & Beyond stores and 120 BuyBuy BABY locations across the United States.
The bankruptcy proceedings involved complex negotiations, including the sale of the brand’s intellectual property to Overstock.com, which subsequently rebranded as Beyond Inc. However, recent developments signal a promising turn for the brand’s revival.

Kirkland’s Inc. has finalized a $25 million investment from Beyond Inc., the parent company of Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, and Zulily. This investment was approved by Kirkland’s shareholders on February 5, 2025, with 97% voting in favor. The agreement includes an $8 million equity purchase and the conversion of an $8.5 million convertible term loan, providing Kirkland’s with significant capital to support its growth plans.
As a result, Beyond Inc. now owns approximately 40% of Kirkland’s outstanding shares. This partnership designates Kirkland as Beyond Inc.’s exclusive brick-and-mortar operator and licensee for new, smaller-format Bed Bath & Beyond locations nationwide. The first of these stores is expected to open later this year.
