Demi Moore has officially secured her place in Hollywood as an Oscar nominee for The Substance. This is a great achievement for the actress, especially because her value in the industry has not been fully recognized even though she has played several notable movie roles.
Recently, the actress shared a beautiful glimpse into the ways the horror genre has influenced her career at an early stage, a story that the public did not know about until she opened up. In her memoir, Inside Out, she goes into details about her journey from start to achieving success and fame in Hollywood.
Demi Moore’s horror film decades before ‘The Substance’
During the late 1970s, Demi Moore ventured into modeling to support her acting ambitions. Later, she was approached by a photographer to pose for a movie poster. The movie producers wanted a model with a particular body shape after deeming the lead actress’s figure unsuitable for the poster. Meanwhile, Moore accepted the offer eagerly and became the face of one of the most controversial horror movies of all time, I Spit On Your Grave (1978).
Then the poster got infamous for its provocative look: a woman seen from behind, clad in torn clothing and holding a knife. Although it was intended to represent the movie’s lead actress, Camille Keaton, Moore claims it was her likeness that ended up on the artwork. The movie was often criticized for its graphic content. Roger Ebert condemned it as one of the most offensive movies he had ever reviewed.
Demi Moore is tipped to win the Oscars
Horror movies have long served as a way for actresses to get into the spotlight in the industry. These actresses are referred to as scream queens to celebrate their work in the horror genre. Demi Moore could also be considered a scream queen, considering her connection to I Spit On Your Grave and recent success with The Substance.
In The Substance, the storyline challenges the traditional Hollywood beauty standards. And when comparing her role in the movie with other actresses who have won the Oscars, Demi Moore stands a good chance to win the award.
