Zak Starkey

Zak Starkey faced an unexpected health challenge that forced him to cancel a performance in London at the last minute. The 59-year-old musician had been set to play a secret gig in Soho with his band, Mantra of the Cosmos, but hours before the show, Zak was rushed to see doctors, who discovered a blood clot in his leg.

The celebrated drummer Zak Starkey is not only the son of Beatles legend Ringo Starr, he is also known for his work with Oasis and The Who. However, due to his health concerns, he has been placed on bed rest and prescribed a two-week course of blood thinners, prioritizing his recovery over performance.

Zak Starkey is a member of the band, Mantra of the Cosmos, also featuring Happy Mondays icons Bez and Shaun Ryder, and guitarist Andy Bell of Oasis and Ride. Following the singer’s health emergency, his bandmate had to adapt quickly to the situation so that even though they did not perform as planned, Bez, Shaun, and Andy still attended the event at Karma Sanctum Soho to celebrate with fans.

The trio emphasized that Zak’s health came first, so instead of a live show, the group screened their recent performance at Liverpool’s iconic Cavern Club, a venue tied to the legacy of Zak’s father. Reflecting on their Cavern Club experience, Bez shared heartfelt words with the audience, describing it as a moment of magic. He felt like they were the Beatles and was proud enough to remind them that Zak Starkey’s father is Ringo Starr!
