A little over two decades since its conclusion in 2003 after a seven-season run, it appears that fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are about to get sucked once again into the amazing world of Buffy Summers as she leads the Scoobies in their campaign against vampires, demons, and other dark forces.
Speaking in a recent interview, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the role of Buffy Summers, subtly dropped a hint about the possibility of a reboot of the iconic series, which was an important part of the popular culture of its time.
Sarah Michelle Gellar speaks on the possibility of a ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reboot
While making an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Gellar disclosed that she would consider reprising her role as Buffy Summers again for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.
The 47-year-old explained that the decision to take up the titular role came after watching the successful reboot of other series, such as And Just Like That, a sequel to the popular TV series Sex and the City, as well as the newly released Dexter: Original Sin, in which she was cast as a special guest star playing the role of Tanya Martin.
Sarah Michelle Gellar had previously been uninterested in a ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reboot
Gellar’s recent statement comes as a direct opposite of her previous stance, as she has always shot down the idea of taking part in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. Speaking on Mario Lopez’s podcast in 2021, the actress explained that even if there was going to be a reboot of the series, she believed that the titular role should go to a much younger person because the story was based on “the horrors of adolescence,” of which she was no longer one.
Also, she explained to SFX Magazine in 2022 that she was not interested in stepping back into her role as the vampire slayer, as she believed that both the cast and crew had done a perfect job with the original.
