‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Trailer Signals The End Of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt

Mission Impossible 8

The first trailer for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 8 has been released, and it hints at what may be the end of the road for Tom Cruise’s famed act as Ethan Hunt. As the name The Final Reckoning implies, this eighth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise could be the wrap-up.

Aside from Cruise, the likes of Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Angela Bassett will be reprising their roles, while new faces like Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klemetieff, and Shea Whigham will join the franchise. Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning will be shown in theaters next May.

Will ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ be the last?

Mission: Impossible 8 was actually shot right after the previous installment, Mission: Impossible 7, with the creators intending to release it as Dead Reckoning Parts 1 and 2. Due to the low performance of the seventh part of the series, it was renamed Dead Reckoning and the eighth to Final Reckoning.

Although showrunners have not confirmed the franchise’s finality, Cruise seems to be moving on to other projects right after filming Dead Reckoning and Final Reckoning after four years. The iconic actor is set to produce and star in a Warner Bros. movie directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu.

What to expect from ‘Mission: Impossible 8’

Mission: Impossible 8 will also star Hayley Atwell and others like Esai Morales, Henry Czerny, Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman and Greg Tarzan Davis. It also shows a flick from the first Mission: Impossible film from 1996, which was directed by Brian De Palma.

Christopher McQuarrie remains the director for the upcoming release, as with the last three installments. Fans can expect to see Cruise in his element yet again— running from vehicles, escaping explosions by close shaves, fighting villains, flying helicopters and even scuba diving.
