Although it has been four years since Kelly Preston died of breast cancer, memories of her remain fresh for her daughter Ella Bleu Travolta, and Ella’s father John Travolta. Ella recently discussed how she dealt with the loss while promoting her debut EP “Colors of Love.”
Ella was only 20 when Kelly passed away at 57, leaving her behind with her dad and brother, Benjamin. She also lost her older brother, Jett, in 2009, after he suffered a seizure during a family holiday in the Bahamas.
Ella Travolta copes with writing and music
Ella noted that her new songs were inspired by her mother, whose death she coped with by expressing herself through lyric writing. She added that the track “Little Bird” is a message to Kelly while acknowledging that she received tremendous support from loved ones, but needed to get all her feelings out to the deceased.
The music video for “Little Bird” featured home video footage of Kelly, which she gathered from friends and family. The 24-year-old made sure to highlight the happier moments of her mother’s lifetime in the video, as a celebration of her life.
Ella Travolta remembers Kelly Preston and deals with grief and love
Ella credits her father for encouraging her music career, and would even love to work with him on a duet this Christmas. She broke into the industry with her first singles, “Dizzy” and “Thank You,” in 2022, whilst juggling other work including modeling and acting. She also enjoys baking, as she once recreated Tom Cruise’s coconut bundt cake while showing it off on social media.
Ella starred in some of her father’s movies, including Old Dogs and Poison Rose, and has walked the runway for the likes of Karl Lagerfeld during September’s Cara Loves Karl capsule collection. She admitted that John helped her finish her new music collection, adding that he protects her from industry pitfalls as a budding artist.
