Hoda could not hide her surprise at Jenna’s preference for subtitles, as she considered it distracting in real-time. Jenna reminded her co-host that the words are located at the bottom of the screen; hence it does not interfere with the clips.
During the back and forth, Hoda stopped to ask if Jenna favored captions because she had difficulty hearing dialogues, and the latter confirmed the assumption to be true. It was a touching revelation that called for empathy towards people like Jenna, who require a little help with listening.

Like Jenna and Hoda, viewers also had differing opinions about watching shows with subtitles, and they did not hesitate to pick a side online. “Must have closed captions on. It’s not that I can’t hear, but sometimes I can’t understand what they’ve just said. Enunciate!” someone explained.
Another suggested that movie theaters should consider adding subtitles to their showings for some groups to enjoy the experience. “ANTI!!! It is too distracting! You cannot watch the movie or show or whatever and read at the same time and get the same level of viewing out of it!” a second user noted in agreement with Hoda. A few blamed their spouses and kids for constantly interrupting mid-movie, hence why they keep their captions on to stay on track with dialogues while dealing with other distractions.
