The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) accused Instant Brands, responsible for making Pyrex kitchen and home products, of falsely claiming to produce all their items in the US, whereas more than 110,000 units of measuring cups were made in China.
Consumers who bought this utensil might just be getting a check soon as the FTC is set to issue up to $88,000 in refunds to affected persons. Instant Brands has agreed to pay the agency for the damages and deception caused by their false claims.

Instant Brands reportedly struggled with meeting the customers’ demands due to the baking trend during the pandemic lockdown; hence they outsourced some production to China between March 2021 and May 2022.
The director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, Samuel Levine, noted that marketers have to provide accurate information to consumers. He added that changes such as this temporary manufacturing switch should have been announced through ads and other means.
Customers await their refund
10,259 customers are to expect their check within the next three months, and no special procedure is required to claim their refund as it will be effected automatically. The FTC also has a public interactive dashboard of refund data, where consumers can track cases of refunds across different states.
Customers are free to contact the agency’s refund administrator, Simpluris, via a phone call or simply visit the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section of the FTC website for more information. Last year alone, up to $330 million refund was issued to consumers.
