Amid the promotion of her mother’s posthumous book release, Riley Keough had a chat with show host Oprah Winfrey, where she revealed some eerie details about the day her famous grandfather, Elvis Presley died.
Thanks to Riley, accounts from her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, have been documented from tapes and conversations to write From Here to the Great Unknown. She said Lisa Marie knew something was off on the day she died, even though she was only nine years old.
Lisa Marie Presley recalled events surrounding Elvis Presley’s passing
Although really young, Lisa Marie could tell her father was not feeling okay the night before his demise, especially when saying goodnight to him. She recalled seeing him struggle to stand properly while going to the bathroom— and as a little girl who loved to put her feelings on paper, Lisa Marie would write little letters, hoping her daddy would not die.
Sadly, Lisa Marie’s biggest fears came true in August 1977, when Elvis was found unconscious in his bathroom after straining too hard to pass stool. Despite Elvis’ split from Priscilla Presley, father and daughter remained so close that they were the only ones staying upstairs at Graceland at the time.
Fans react to Riley Keough’s latest revelation
While fans await the release of From Here to the Great Unknown on October 8, the special with Oprah also airs the same day, and they can’t wait to hear more. “I remember the day he died, I was 14 years old, visiting my grandmother, and I heard on the radio in Brazil, cried my heart out,” a fan quipped in the comments.

Another gushed about how grown up Riley has become, saying she looks like young Priscilla. “Her face, skin, hair, and demeanor are all so becoming! What a lovely girl!” someone else quipped. The 35-year-old has shown great responsibility so far as Graceland’s new owner, and in preserving her family’s legacy with projects such as this upcoming release.
