It has been nearly four decades since Tiffany Darwish released “I Think We’re Alone Now,” and she is working on re-recording it alongside other iconic songs for a greatest hits album. The 52-year-old explained that she has now grown into a different perspective from her teen years, which she would like to express via reimagined versions of her most popular songs.
Tiffany added that adulthood has now taken her through the realities of her lyrics from back then, which she was merely singing without experience. Being only 14 at the rise of her music career, Tiffany could be seen performing her cover of the Tommy James and the Shondells’ single in malls at the time.
Tiffany cited “Could’ve Been,” the third track of her debut album Tiffany, as an example that, unlike the lyrics, she had never even had a boyfriend when it was written. Now, the divorced mother of one feels more equipped to sing it with more depth.
She also referred to her more playful songs, noting that as an adult, it now goes beyond simply bopping and dancing. In her words, they now have a different vibe, similar to going on an exciting first date but reminding oneself about keeping high standards.
Tiffany assured fans that the new album will sound similar to 2022’s Shadows, with a “rock retro” vibe. She also threw in a modern blend to the ‘80s-ish production, which she claims has easy-to-digest lyrics. Tiffany’s goal is to have listeners nostalgic but also feel new and more evolved than when they heard the original.
Those who have attended the singer’s recent RetroTonic shows have a glimpse of the upcoming sound, which was a tricky one to create in a bid to maintain the originality of the first versions. While the album is in the works, Tiffany performed her most popular songs with Taylor Dayne over the weekend at Agua Caliente Casino in Cathedral City, California.
