She was tasked with announcing the winner of the Best Picture award category with Lady Gaga by her side. However, she fumbled and said she did not understand. She reportedly appeared in a wheelchair to avoid worries about her limping to the stage.

Liza gave her perspective two years after the incident during a recent interview with People while teasing her new memoir ahead of its release in 2026. She explained that the Oscars, amongst other triggering events such as “a film with twisted half-truths” and “a recent miniseries that just didn’t get it right,” inspired her to write.

Unknown to many, Liza was furious about the narratives emanating from her appearance. Her friend and fellow creative Michael Feinstein revealed back then that she was disappointed and nervous because the organizers did not adhere to the initial plan for her entrance.
Liza was forced to appear against her wishes
Sadly, Liza’s only condition for obliging to an appearance was to be seen on stage in a director’s chair because she wanted to look fine. Just minutes before she went up for her moment, the stage manager asked that they switch her into a wheelchair without her consent.
It was quite embarrassing for the 78-year-old, who had to be seen by millions of people in such a sad state. Eyebrows have been raised ever since about her health, which has saddled her with the responsibility of assuring fans about her well-being multiple times. She is looking to set things straight by seizing the narratives about her previous marriages, career, and drug addiction.
