Liza Minnelli has decided who she wants to be buried next to, and it is not her famous mother, Judy Garland. The actress revealed that she wants her final resting place to be with her father, Vicente Minnelli, who died in 1986.
According to her close friend, Liza had a great relationship with Vincente such that she was a typical “daddy’s girl,” hence her choice is not much of a surprise. Since undergoing several surgeries including hip and knee replacements, and jaw reconstruction, Liza had been more recluse with a few public appearances here and there.
Although Liza loved her mom dearly, their relationship was not always smooth due to Judy’s struggles with addiction and tough parenting; however, Liza insists she had a happy childhood and was best friends with her mother. They also worked together since Liza was a toddler, and Judy would often praise her during interviews and conversations.
Liza has always honored her mother’s legacy long after her passing, and she made sure to celebrate Judy’s would-have-been 100th birthday in 2022. She also collaborated with her sister Lorna to launch a perfume collection named Judy by Vince Spinnato and planted 1,000 Judy Garland roses as a tribute to the iconic actress.
Liza appears to inch closer to her final days due to her declining health as of late. The 78-year-old raised concerns at the 2022 Oscar Awards ceremony when she appeared in a wheelchair and looked disoriented. She was to present the Best Picture award but had a hard time getting herself together on stage.
After years of substance abuse and several check-ins at rehab, Liza came down with viral encephalitis, which affected her ability to move, see or hear properly. It appears her condition got even worse earlier this year as she missed her best friend, Allan Lazare’s funeral in March.
