Steve Tyler Makes Special Tribute To Joe Perry During Final Aerosmith Performance Ever

Aerosmith’s Peace Out farewell tour marked their last after decades of performing together around the world. Singer-songwriter Steve Tyler was in high spirits during one of the shows last September, putting his spin on hits like “Back in the Saddle,” “Dream On,” and “Walk This Way.”

Tyler’s last rendition was the Birthday song to bandmate Joe Perry, who turned 73 at the time. The group surprised him on stage with a huge chocolate cake as Tyler serenaded him at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York; however, that would mark a critical point in Tyler’s career.

Sadly, Tyler suffered a vocal cord injury, and despite efforts to restore his voice, his medical team has ruled that nothing more can be done. Aerosmith responded to the tragic update by canceling their remaining dates altogether and retiring from any further tours, including a renewed Peace Out tour.

Tyler was open about his condition then, assuring his followers of a comeback after bleeding from the injury. “I promise we will be back as soon as we can! – Love, Steven,” he stated at the time. Against their wishes, the band has had to come to a difficult consensus to stop their career in its tracks to stand with Tyler.

It is not Tyler’s first time getting wounded on the job, as he once fell right off the stage during the 2009 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. This led to severe injuries to his head, neck, and shoulder, leading to the cancellation of the concert after he was airlifted from the venue.

Like the band’s latest verdict, Tyler’s fall shook the group at the time as well, with side talks about them splitting up due to the disruption to their 2009 tour. Thankfully, they stuck together and got back on the road the following year while churning out new music. After decades of ups and downs together, it appears Aerosmith has come to the end of the road with Tyler’s voice gone.
