Olivia Newton-John died from breast cancer in 2022 after a 20-year-long battle with the ravaging illness. Her death at 73 shook John Easterling, whom she was married to since 2008, to his core.
Two years later, John still remembers like it was yesterday and paid tribute to her recently during a touching interview. He discussed how they met and how their friendship blossomed into something beautiful years later.
John Easterling opens up about relationship with Olivia Newton-John
For Olivia and John, their romance was not straight out of a movie but a build-up of feelings over time. They first met in 1995, thanks to a blind date set up by their mutual friends. However, no sparks flew, and John admitted she was not what he envisioned. They leaned into friendship since then and would catch up at charity events.

John recalled his first time seeing Olivia as a romantic prospect at a Miami concert, which she had invited him to. He was blown away by her rendition of “Pearls on a Chain,” as with other attendees who bawled their eyes out. He then realized how healing Olivia’s voice was and took more interest in her.
15 years of bliss
While her friendship with John grew, Olivia was having troubles with her love life as a divorcee and mother of one. She also dated cameraman Patrick McDermott for years until 2005, when he went missing. Olivia finally found solace in John after a medical trip to Peru that made them know each other better.
Sadly, they would only have each other for a decade and a half until Olivia’s unfortunate passing. John is grateful to have experienced the multi-talented actress whose footsteps and sonorous voice he misses to this day.
