John Lennon’s Blue-Tinted Glasses And Abbey Road Photos Are Up For Auction

by Peace A

Published July 24, 2024

A lucky man got John Lennon’s blue-tinted glasses while visiting Abbey Road Studios in 1968, and now, the same accessory will sell at the Farleigh Golf Club in Surrey later this month and is expected to fetch up to £3,000. Also going up for auction is a collection of copyrighted photos of Lennon at Abbey Road.

The pictures include 33 black and white shots featuring each member of the Fab Four and George Martin at Abbey Road and are expected to sell for about £300. Some include photos from the group’s famous album cover of 1969, where they walked on a zebra crossing near the studio.

A spokesperson for Catherine Southon Auctioneers & Valuers said that Lennon gave his round-rimmed spectacles to a fan who visited the studio with his girlfriend. The young man saw the pair of glasses lying on a piano and picked it up, but was immediately asked by his girlfriend to put it down.

Lennon observed what happened and told the fan he could keep it, to his and his lover’s delight. The man has held the keepsake dear for 56 years and is now ready to sell it for a few thousand dollars to the next lucky owner. The glasses show the music legend’s fashion sense from the ‘60s, as he loved to pair them with a necklace and a button-down shirt.

More auctioned property of Lennon’s

The glasses and photo collection happen to be among the cheapest items from Lennon’s property, as other items have sold for multiple times more in the past. One of his guitars, the Framus Hootenanny 12-string one from the Help! album sold for nearly $3 million after it was founded.

His bandmates’ instruments have also changed hands for whooping sums, such as Ringo Starr’s Ludwig drum kit, which went for $2.2 million in 2015. The auction— which is slated for July 31, comes after Lennon’s son, Sean Ono, re-released his 1973 solo album, Mind Games, to keep his father’s music alive.
