Shelley Duvall Posed Cheerfully For Photos With A Fan Days Before Passing

Shelley Duvall died in her sleep earlier this week, just four days after her 75th birthday, and was reported to have passed due to complications from diabetes. Her life partner of 35 years, Dan Gilroy, confirmed the news via The Hollywood Reporter, noting that his wife is finally free of her suffering.

A fan followed up the news with the selfie she had taken with Duvall on her birthday, which showed the actress in a cheerful mood as she smiled for the camera. The fan named Sarah runs a fan account for Duvall, and her touching post received attention from thousands of the screen icon’s well-wishers.

Sarah took to X with the adorable snap shortly after the news of Duvall’s passing broke. “Shelley was having difficulties with her health over the past few months, and I visited with her often. I’ll always be grateful for the memories I created with her and that I was able to give her comfort and companionship,” her caption read.

Sarah added that Duvall was full of gratitude in her final days and often thanked her for cheering up her spirits. “I’ll always remember that,” she added. “She made such a positive impact on my life as I did on hers.”

The world pays tribute to the actress

Sarah’s post has received up to 4 million views and counting, with Duvall’s fans flooding her comments with tributes and appreciation for showering the late star with care. “So sorry for your loss, beautiful. I’m glad you got to spend her birthday together, you both look so happy there!” someone penned. “I’m sending you all the love and healing in the world.”

Another added that they immediately thought of Sarah after hearing the news and sent comfort her way. Duvall’s career flourished and impacted many since she stepped into the spotlight in the ‘70s. Her frequent collaborations with director and screenwriter Robert Altman also put her on the map, earning her recognition for productions like Nashville, Thieves Like Us, and 3 Women.
