Camila and Vida show off matching styles
In addition to his career spanning over three decades, Matthew McConaughey is a proud husband and father. He and his wife Camila Alves share 14-year-old daughter Vida, and during a recent event in New York City, Camila and Vida were seen twinning in coordinating outfits, setting a new precedent for style.
McConaughey and Camila, a Brazilian model, have been married since 2012, though they first met back in 2006. That was when the two just so happened to cross paths at a nightclub in Los Angeles. The first encounter may have been circumstantial, but the connection was immediate and would prove enduring to this day.
On June 6, Camila attended a Hermès Birkin event, entering the venue holding daughter Vida’s hand. The two were seen in vibrant red two-piece outfits that left the torso exposed. While Vida favored a skirt that rested above the knee, Camila wore an ankle-length skirt decorated with an artful pattern of cutouts.
Each woman also wore different styles of black shoes. Vida’s were close-toed while Camila opted for a more strappy look for her footwear. Both wore their long dark hair in loose curls and both selected subtle yet dazzling pieces of gold jewelry to compliment the intense red of their outfits.
McConaughey and Camila share three children in total: Levi, 15; Vida, 14; and Livingston, 11. Even above acting, parenting was always the top priority for McConaughey and his life goal. “The only thing I ever knew I wanted to be was a father,” said McConaughey.
He went on, “And it’s remained the pinnacle for me. Being a dad was always my only dream … I can’t think of anything being more important.”
With that dream has come an equally important learning experience. “Sometimes loving your kids means giving them just what they want. Other times, it means tough love,” he mused in an interview with Town & Country. “Affluent people can give their kids everything they want, but they’re not usually going to get what they need. Loving a child is a lot harder if you really give a damn.”
His earnest passion for attentive parenthood has, in McConaughey’s view, made him a better actor, “because kids see things for the first time all the time. Their questions are innocent.” That does mean, however, he had to keep things vague if his time on True Detective ever came up since, as McConaughey noted, “it’s not age-appropriate.”
