The daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has pursued legal action
They were once the quintessential Hollywood power couple and now they join the list of divorced Hollywood couples. With plenty of drama brewing in the background, too. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt has reportedly filed to have Pitt formally stricken from her legal name.
Jolie and Pitt, who were famously nicknamed Brangelina at the height of their unified fame, got together in 2004 and wed one another ten years later. Throughout their relationship, they became parents to six children total: Zahara Marley, who they adopted in 2005, Shiloh Nouve, their first biological child born in 2006, Pax Thien, adopted from Vietnam the following year, and twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline, born biologically to the couple in 2008. Here is the latest legal fallout from the family.
18-year-old Shiloh has not only secured a lawyer but she paid for the legal counsel herself, all to strike Pitt from her name, according to a source close to the matter. She filed it on May 27, the very day she turned 18. The insider further claims that the choice was driven because of an “abuse history” along with a “violation” of Shiloh’s rights.
Us Weekly posits that this request can be expected to move through the appropriate channels quickly—and be granted with just as much haste.
“Anyone can file to change their name if they’re 18 years old, and obviously, parents can do it for a minor,” explained legal expert Neama Rahmani, who is not involved in the request but offered Us Weekly some insight into the process. “And these requests in California, they’re liberally granted, so people can change their names as long as it’s not for a misleading reason.”
A source told PEOPLE that Pitt reportedly knows about this action Shiloh has taken; the insider also has information about his alleged reaction.
“He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,” the insider claims. “He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter.”
“The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad,” the source continued. “He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad. He still loves all of his kids tremendously,” and that “this whole process has been very hard for the whole family.”
