Sally Struthers All In The Family

Sally Struthers is best known for her role as Gloria Stivic in the groundbreaking American TV series All in the Family, which aired from 1971 to 1979. With her unique blend of warmth, humor, and emotional depth, she became one of the show’s most beloved characters.

Reflecting on her time in the series, the 76-year-old shared that the show’s conclusion left her with a lasting sense of nostalgia. Despite the often contentious on-screen relationship between her character Gloria and that of her on-screen father, Archie Bunker, due to their frequent disagreements on various topics, Struthers revealed that off-screen, she and her co-star Carroll O’Connor shared a profound mutual respect and affection.

Struthers explained that when the series ended, she was quite happy. This was not because she was dissatisfied with her character, which she went on to reprise in Archie Bunker’s Place and her short-lived spinoff show, Gloria. Instead, her relief stemmed from the significant impact the show’s success had on her personal life. Many fans struggled to distinguish between the fictional character she portrayed and her real-life identity, frequently approaching and bothering her in public places. This intrusion into her private life became overwhelming, concluding the series a welcome change for her.

She further disclosed that she never anticipated missing the show while filming the finale. However, she now finds it incredibly challenging to watch it without being overwhelmed by a flood of emotions.

The actress claimed she gained a second father in Caroll O’Connor

The 76-year-old also noted that she struck an amazing relationship with her on-screen dad—a core professional—who provided her much-needed mentorship and guidance throughout her time on the series.

In a previous interview with Closer Weekly in 2021, marking the 50th anniversary of All In The Family, Struthers revealed that her relationship with the late actor transcended her career. He became a father figure for her after her dad’s demise. She also noted that he was instrumental in meeting her husband, William Rader.
