76-Year-Old Sam Neill Shares Cancer Remission Update: “I Feel Better With Age”

Actor Sam Neill has shared another health update, one that has kept up the trend of good news for the actor, whose cancer went into remission in recent years. Neill previously expressed his understanding that the reprieve would be temporary, but so far, Neill has reported feeling nothing but better.

In spring 2022, Neill revealed that he was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, which is a rare type of blood cancer. To combat the disease, he underwent monthly chemotherapy. When the chemotherapy stopped working three months in, he then received biweekly infusions. This kept him in remission for 12 months. Here is the latest Neill has to share on his health battle.

Despite contending with cancer treatment, Neill opted to keep himself as busy as ever, noted Variety, be it through writing a memoir for his grandchildren or managing his vineyards. That’s the active front he’s putting up on the outside. On the inside, Neill is happy to report a similar upbeat energy.

“Listen, I have been in remission for two years now,” he said with Entertainment Tonight, “and I feel great.” In fact, 76-year-old Neill added, “I only get better with age.”

Overall, at this latest stage in his cancer journey, Neill assures fans that he “feels great.”

Neill has processed a lot of complicated feelings concerning life and death

Neill has previously said that there may likely come a time when his treatments stop working to successfully keep him cancer-free. Upon revealing that, Neill said that he’s “prepared for that,” adding that while he’s “remotely afraid” of that turn of events, he finds the whole situation “annoying.”

Even with all these complicated emotions and difficult health struggles, Neill asserts that retirement is “completely out of the question.” If anything, the idea of retiring is what “fills me with horror.”

Keeping to that attitude, Neill happily wrapped up work on the miniseries Apples Never Fall, an adaptation of the Liane Moriarty novel. Since 2022, he’s also maintained a main role in The Twelve, which itself is based on a 2019 Belgian miniseries called De twaalf. It follows the story of a woman charged with the murder of her niece and of the twelve jurors who very much allow their prejudices to color their judgment.
