The sequel to the 1988 movie Beetlejuice is slated for release this September. It marks the reunion of many members of the original cast and a few new faces as well. The trailer is making rounds on social media, teasing the comeback of Michael Keaton’s hideous character, Beetlejuice.
Co-starring alongside Keaton are his former castmates Winona Ryder, who plays grown-up Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara, reprising her role as Lydia’s mother, Delia. Jenna Ortega from Netflix’s Wednesday plays Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, with Monica Belluci and Willem Dafoe featuring too.

The teaser opens with Ryder in character warning viewers that it will be “intense,” as a cover of Harry Belanfonte’s “Day-O” follows in the background. Warner Bros. Pictures shared the two-minute clip via their official YouTube channel, and fans flooded the comments with excitement and anticipation. “It’s Showtime! Beetlejuice is back!” the caption read.

Viewers commented on how good the original cast looked even after several decades, adding that they could not wait to see it. “Michael Keaton 72 years old and has already came back for Batman in the flash and now he’s coming back for Beetlejuice. This guy is a legend!!!” a fan of Keaton’s gushed.
Last year, Burton emphasized that the Beetlejuice sequel will be different from the ‘80s classic and will focus on the living instead. He was inspired to make another installment based on his journey “from cool teenager to lame adult.” Burton wanted to portray character development in the characters’ future lives— an idea he also saw as a chance to “go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets.”
Unfortunately, the Maitland couple, played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin, are absent from Beetlejuice 2. Geena revealed her reason as the fact that “ghosts don’t age,” and there is no way to explain how their characters Barbara and Adam got older. Disappointed fans suggested the use of technology such as CGI, but their decision to be off the remake remained unchanged.
