The Passenger’s Iggy Pop made a statement at the recent Cannes Film Festival in South France by showing up to the event wearing flip-flops. The music legend paired the high-platform footwear with a black sequined blazer and pants and threw in a silver necklace to complete the look.
He graced the live listening party stage with Troye Sivan and drag queen Nicky Doll as they heard three versions of Troye’s “Honey.” Iggy let his shoulder-length hair down in a center part and put his dark shades aside as he conversed with his co-panelists.

Before now, Iggy made headlines after calling out the music industry at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where he slammed the “digital age” for making things too easy for effort. The singer, whose birth name is James Newell Osterberg, says anyone can now “push a button and get rich quick,” unlike “throwing an amp into the spirit of man” in older times.

The festival featured a screening for director Jim Jarmusch’s Gimme Danger, which is a documentary based on Iggy’s band, The Stooges, his career, and his longtime battle with drugs like LSD. Iggy took the chance to warn youths about the dangers of substance abuse, noting that he simply opts for a glass of wine these days.

Aside from music, Iggy was arguably one of the foremost drug addicts in the rock scene, and it even got so bad that he got supplies from David Bowie while in rehab. He set the tone for punk music and culture with daring contortions and antics on stage, including baring himself and surfing the crowd.
With time passing and old age creeping in, Iggy has toned some of his stunts to avoid “further wear and tear” on himself. “I hit my limit,” he told Billboard last year, adding that he attempted a few crossovers but did not fully dive into the crowd.
