Renowned American musician Brian Wilson celebrated as the co-founder of The Beach Boys and a pivotal figure in shaping popular music, has been battling dementia. After the passing of his wife and longtime manager, Melinda Ledbetter, who had been catering for him, in January, his family designated two trusted family representatives as co-conservators through a formal petition.
However, things have taken a different turn. One of the appointed conservators recently introduced an amendment to the initial petition, causing a significant shift in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Wilson’s estate and well-being.
Brian Wilson’s conservatorship might be amended
LeeAnn Hard, who Wilson’s family suggested serve as co-conservator alongside Jean Sievers, revised the recent petition. In the updated filing, Hard requested authorization to oversee the administration of medications suitable for managing major neurocognitive disorders, such as dementia.

She clarified that her request stemmed from Wilson’s inability to provide informed consent for the medication due to his diminished capacity. Although Wilson is unable to attend the hearing for the new petition regarding his conservatorship because of his health decline, his family is looking out for his best interest, and the hearing is scheduled for later this month.

In a statement made by the family after the passing of Wilson’s wife, they revealed that Hard and Sievers had been chosen as co-conservators. They explained that the duo was suggested because of the close relationship that they have with the singer and his late wife.
“Following the passing of Brian’s beloved wife Melinda, after careful consideration and consultation among Brian, his seven children, Gloria Ramos, and Brian’s doctors (and consistent with family processes put in place by Brian and Melinda),” the family admitted. “We are confirming that longtime Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers will serve as Brian’s co-conservators of the person.”
They also noted that the major reason for the conservatorship was to ensure that Wilson was well-catered for. “This decision was made to ensure that there will be no extreme changes to the household, and Brian and the children living at home will be taken care of and remain in the home where they are cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful team at the house who have been in place for many years helping take care of the family,” the family added.
