Actor Bruce Willis turned 69 on March 19, and his family — including ex-wife Demi Moore — took time out to celebrate him. The Indecent Proposal star shared three adorable photos featuring herself, Bruce, and their granddaughter, as well as a throwback photo with their kids, Scout, Rumer, and Tallulah.

Her caption contained a sweet short note that said, “Happy birthday, BW! We love you and are so grateful for you.” Demi’s followers joined her in wishing Bruce a happy birthday and express admiration for their family. “Absolutely love how even though Bruce and Demi are divorced, they love and respect each other as parents and grandparents,” someone noted.

Bruce, at 69, is a retired actor due to his diagnosis with aphasia in 2022, which was later confirmed to be Frontotemporal Dementia. Being a rare disease, the actor’s family has taken it upon themselves to educate and create awareness about it while they shower him with love. “There is power in becoming an advocate for this community,” Bruce’s wife, Emma Hemming, wrote for Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper. “It’s something that I want our kids to see me face out loud, working with others, fighting through the stigma and isolation that a disease like this can bring,”

Per updates from his kids and friends like director Glenn Gordon Caron, Bruce has changed much in the way he communicates and recalls; however, they are grateful to have as much time as they can with him. “He’s not totally verbal; he used to be a voracious reader— he didn’t want anyone to know that, and he’s not reading now. All those language skills are no longer available to him, and yet he’s still Bruce. I have tried very hard to stay in his life. He’s an extraordinary person,” Glenn, who worked with the star on 1985’s Moonlighting, admitted. “When you’re with him, you know that he’s Bruce, and you’re grateful that he’s there. But the joie de vivre is gone.”
