Tom Cruise Flashes His Abs While Climbing The Hollywood Sign

Since exploding onto the screen in 1981, Tom Cruise has kept up an active career – and an active lifestyle to match it. Indeed, even at 61, he has kept himself fit, and recently Cruise showed off just how much in some photos of himself on the Hollywood sign, showing off his abs as he made the trek.

Cruise was last seen on screen in 2023’s Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning, the first part of a two-part duo to be shot back-to-back in the greater Mission Impossible series. Last year’s film was a sequel to 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

Cruise was seen on Saturday accompanied by a film crew as he scaled the Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills iconic sign. He wore black pants and a tight-fitting matching black shirt. At one point, Cruise pulled up the hem of his shirt to show off his abs; he flashed the camera a wide grin.

On Monday, PEOPLE reached out to Cruise’s team for a comment. By time of writing, it is uncertain what Cruise and his team were filming at the Hollywood sign over the weekend. The eighth film in the Mission Impossible series still has no title but it is due to be released on May 23, 2025 by Paramount Pictures.

The untitled eighth Mission Impossible film will see Cruise reprise his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, along with Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, and more. Upon the film’s anticipated 2025 release, Cruise will have played Hunt across 29 years. Tolkien and X-Men alum Nicholas Hoult joined the cast, as well as The Last of Us actor Nick Offerman and Tumbleweeds icon Janet McTeer.

“We’ve been working on it diligently,” Cruise shared with Variety back in the summer of 2023, adding, “We’ll see where we go.”

Filming formally began in the United Kingdom in March 2022, with additional filming locations including Norway, Malta, and South Africa. Filming was briefly interrupted in July 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, before picking up again in March 2024.
