Catherine O’Hara Says Iconic Song From Original ‘Beetlejuice’ Will Be In The Sequel

The Beetlejuice sequel is set to hit the theaters in September, and the teasers that have since been released have kept excited fans expectant for another thrilling experience. Catherine O’Hara, who played Delia Deetz in the 1988 original, will be reprising her role, and she gave some juicy details about what is to come.

During her chat with Kelly Ripa for the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, Catherine O’Hara revealed that the late Henry Belafonte’s “Day O” will make a comeback in Beetlejuice 2. “‘Day-O’ is in the movie,’” the 70-year-old said matter-of-factly.

Michael Keaton, who played Beetlejuice, and Winona Ryder, who portrayed Lydia Deetz in the original, will be making comebacks alongside Netflix’s Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter. The ‘80s classic featured a haunting ghost couple depicted by Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, and another family in their home.

Catherine clearly had a good time filming, describing the making of the sequel as “fun and interesting.”

“Michael Keaton was so happy to be there, and Jenna is so cool. Jenna Ortega is such a cool young woman. Winona looks exactly the same!” she added.

Ortega had a bit to say as a newly introduced character in the iconic movie. She previously told Vanity Fair that “the relationship between Lydia and Astrid, my character, is very important. It’s also really strange because it’s a lot of catching up and putting the pieces together of what’s gone on in Lydia’s life since, which is nice, I think, for anybody who loves the character and is excited to see her again.”

For Catherine, being back with the same co-stars and some new faces after nearly four decades gave her mixed feelings. “Doing this last Beetlejuice was really fun too. I know Burton really wanted to get that feeling back on a set, and he got it,” she told PEOPLE, adding that they were able to film at the same location as the prequel in Vermont. “The exact same hill. I can’t believe it exists still. It hasn’t been developed, overdeveloped,” she quipped.
