Recently, a clip of a man pouring Coca-Cola on his ice cream at a cafe in Bahia caught the attention of netizens. The video, which millions of people have now viewed, featured Roberto Pedreira, a 70-year-old Brazilian who shared a shocking revelation about his lifestyle.
Pedreira claimed to have consumed nothing but Coca-Cola for the past half-century. This revelation has not only captivated the public’s imagination but also left medical experts scratching their heads in disbelief and raising concerns.
A 70-year-old man drank only Coca-Cola for the past 50 years
In a recent interview, the septuagenarian shared that he favored Coca-Cola drink over water in the past five decades, and he didn’t break the habit even during his COVID-19 battle as he took his medication with Coke rather than water. “I haven’t drank water in 50 years. I don’t like water,” Pedreira noted. “All the doctors I go to recommend water, but I went head to head with my cardiologist and my endocrinologist. Even my medicine, I take it with Coke. Nothing with water, not a drop.”

Interestingly, Jao Victor Paixao, his godson, corroborated the story. He explained that despite the disbelief of the story, he had known the 70-year-old to be a consistent consumer of Coca-Cola. “It might seem to someone who doesn’t know him like it isn’t true, and it is pretty unbelievable,” he said. “But for as long as I can remember, he only drinks soda, even with ice cream.”
In response to the news, nutritionist Greice Furlanetto Arraes highlighted the health risks associated with excessive consumption of soft drinks. She emphasized the importance of moderation and cautioned against relying on soda to replace plain water in a person’s daily hydration routine. “Soda does not replace water, neither conventional soft drinks nor zero sugar soft drinks. Conventional soft drinks are rich in sugar, and additives have a high caloric content and contribute to weight gain, and consequently increased plasma glucose levels, increasing the risk of diabetes and other chronic non-communicable diseases,” she explained.
However, Paixao revealed that despite Pedreira’s habitual soda consumption, he has consistently maintained good health. “He simply prefers to drink soda, but he takes care of himself,” he confessed.” He goes to all the doctors, he takes all the medications. It’s just this issue of drinking that doesn’t really change.”
