Madonna Claps Back At Ageist Critics, Says She Has ‘No Age’

Madonna looked stunning in the new ad for the Brazilian bank Itaú, wearing a baroque pearl necklace as she went up the magnificent staircase in Paris’ The Palais Garnier. While fans were blown away by the Pop queen’s youthful looks, some critics thought she looked inappropriate for her age.

The one-minute video exuded pomp and class, with Madonna turning to the camera and saying, “They call me the Queen of Pop. I know it’s a compliment, but the monarchy is in the past.” She also addressed the negative comments about her age, noting she has “no age” and is “all ages.”

Madonna’s response to ageist remarks

For Madonna, what matters is her achievements, not the number of years she has lived on this planet. “It’s not about who I am. It’s about how many I am,” she said. “I am always re-inventing myself so that I can keep being myself.” The mother of six experienced heightened trolling during her ongoing Celebration tour when she leaned on a pole while performing— it was later clarified that she was simply steadying herself on the moving platform.

She was also the butt of UK journalist Piers Morgan’s mockery after the 2023 Grammy Awards when he likened her to a Halloween costume. Madonna, who is known to never back down, responded by saying she is “once again caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in.”

“A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45 and feels the need to punish her if she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working, and adventurous,” she fumed.

Madonna’s thoughts on aging

The “Material Girl” singer said she was happy to take the heat and “do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come.” In a world that says, “Do not age, because to age is a sin,” Madonna advised women to “start appreciating our own worth and each other’s worth.”

“Seek out strong women to befriend, to align yourself with, to learn from, to collaborate with, to be inspired by, to support and be enlightened by,” the 65-year-old added.

Per maintaining herself, Madonna keeps a strict routine involving regular visits to her esthetician of over a decade, and a hydrating skincare stash. “Consistency, routine, and finding something effective is key for Madonna. Madonna is extremely regimented, disciplined, and follows the essentials to a tee,” her dermatologist, Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, told Marie Claire last year. She also stays physically active through cardio and pilates.
