Die Hard star Bruce Willis is the father to five children— all girls, three of whom are from his first marriage to actress Demi Moore. The former couple split in 2000, with Bruce marrying Emma Hemming Willis in 2009 and welcoming two daughters, Mabel Ray and Evelyn Penn, together. While Bruce may have created two separate families, they have managed to all stay close-knit, especially after he was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia last year.
Demi Moore’s kids—Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah—have used their social media platforms to give updates about their fathers’ health and offer fans a peek into their lives. The ladies recently went on a family vacation to Las Vegas with their mother, friends, and partners. Rumer posted a carousel of photos from their trip, mainly featuring her and her siblings as a trio. The slides included pictures of their nights out, Tallulah’s birthday, her baby girl Louetta Isley Thomas, and most interestingly, a stunning snap of them in revealing white robes. “Baby, you so money you don’t even know it. Bye Bye Vegas,” Rumer’s caption reads.
The vacation post came just after Rumer shared a wholesome photo of Tallulah holding Louetta in her arms alongside other moments with a sweet note that reads, “I love you more than words. My favorite le scheme, your heart is so big. You are the best aunty whimsy. I love the way your brain works. You have been my best friend, teacher, and inspiration since you came out. I can’t believe you are 30!!! I’m obsessed with you.”
Birthday girl Tallulah was touched by her older sister’s display of affection to her and responded by saying, “I love you so much” in the comments. Scout also celebrated her sister’s milestone with a 10-photo collection featuring them both, as well as their dad, Bruce, wearing a big smile in the woods. “Happy birthday to my favorite person in the entire world to SCHEME with! I am literally star struck to be related to you, you are the coolest person I know,” Scout penned. “You are the star of my heart, and my life would be incomplete without you. You are the moment, You are the motif, thank you for being you, thank you for being my sister.”
Demi joined the train as she took to “showering our @buuski with love today on her 30th birthday” via Instagram with shots of her, the girls, and Bruce. Fans wished Tallulah a happy birthday and commended Demi for doing a great job relating cordially with her ex-husband. “Totally love that you all are amicable— even only I had that with my daughter’s father…happy birthday from a random person,” a follower said. Another fan called them a “beautiful, loving family” while more comments poured in and loads of heart emojis. “Hugs to you and your family!” someone else quipped.
The actor is surrounded by women who celebrate each other and are committed to supporting him through his health condition. Tallulah revealed why they took it upon themselves to publicize Bruce’s progress on The Drew Barrymore Show last year, noting that it not only makes the reality easier to deal with but also helps those in their shoes. “It’s who we are as a family. But also, it’s really important for us to spread awareness about FTD because there’s not enough information out there,” she explained. “If we can take something that we’re struggling with as a family and individually to help other people, to turn it around, to make something beautiful about it— that’s really special for us.”
Bruce’s wife of nearly 15 years has also been at the forefront of spreading knowledge about FTD and building a community based on Bruce’s illness as well. She is set to release a book detailing what life is like as his primary caregiver, which will “offer a thoughtful, inspiring guide for those seeking support while navigating a loved one’s dementia.”
Emma suffered pushback from critics who think she overshares and takes advantage of her partner’s state to win public attention; however, she clapped back at the trolls and promised to “turn my grief and my anger and my sadness and do something good around something that feels less than.”
“I just saw something about me getting my ‘five minutes,’ which is great because it indicates that you’re listening. So I’m going to take my five minutes and turn it into 10 because I’m always going to advocate for my husband,” she added.
As Emma said, she is not backing down when it comes to talking about life with her ailing husband, as she recently announced her plan to put it all into writing. The book, with a yet-to-be-revealed title, will be published by Maria Shriver’s publishing imprint, Open Field, in 2025 as Emma’s contribution to the dementia caregivers’ community. Reports state that individuals living with FTD often survive seven to 13 years.
She previously complained about people having little to no resources when it comes to this rare disease and admitted to feeling guilty about having access to vital information than most people. “I struggle with guilt, knowing that I have resources that others don’t,” she wrote in Shriver’s Sunday Paper last November. “When I’m able to get out for a hike to clear my head, it’s not lost on me that not all care partners can do that. When what I share about our family’s journey gets press attention, I know that there are many thousands of untold, unheard stories, each of them deserving of compassion and concern.”
The 45-year-old expressed her resolve to advocate for those families who don’t have the time, energy, or resources to advocate for themselves. “I have hope in having found a new purpose— admittedly one I never would have gone looking for— using the spotlight to help and empower others,” she continued. The mother of two empathized with people taking care of dementia patients who, like her, “left that (doctor’s) office with close to no resources or support and with a diagnosis that I could hardly pronounce.”
“I think it’s very important how this information from doctor to patient and loved one is relayed. Having resources and information readily available is imperative. I know between my experience and other care partners that I have spoken to; our stories are unfortunately similar,” she shared.
