The “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” singer Cyndi Lauper is now 70 years old, and as expected, she looks different, having aged since her prime years. She admitted to not enjoying aging, as she “was always pissed off on my birthday”; however, she believes it hardly matters when it comes to achieving one’s goals.
Cyndi Lauper told AARP that she was “not a car” and “you don’t need to check under the hood to see the mileage” while discussing how the elderly are expected to take the backseat in life. The non-conforming pop icon still dyes her hair and expresses her growing love for pink and warm tones through color choices and outfits.
Cyndi holds some significance to her appearance; for example, she dyed her hair pink in tribute to the Women’s March, where some attendees held up signs that read, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun-Damental Rights.” She later showed up at WeHo’s San Vicente Bungalows with her husband, David Thornton, with her pixie cut dyed icy blue.
She wanted to go with the saying “blue hair old ladies” and decided to stay true to the words. “I wanted to change it to blue because I felt like, hey, it’s the right age, aren’t I supposed to have blue hair?” she said to Allure. She complemented the new look with white cat-eye glasses, a colorful coat, and a patterned scarf around her neck.
Cyndi revealed the conditions under which she would explore cosmetic enhancements during an interview with The New York Times in 2006, saying, “If it gets to the point where I have to have Scotch tape on my eyelids to hold them up, I will definitely try to do something. I don’t really want to go over the cliff.” She did a tummy tuck that same year and regretted it because “the surgeon was a diva.” “She left, and some student sewed me up. It’s not good,” she said.
The “Change Of Heart” singer also has psoriasis, which causes red, scaly patches of skin due to inflammatory issues. This has caused her to be cautious about her beauty routines so she does not bleed. “I dyed my hair red, put extensions in, and then I just wore a wig so I wouldn’t have to mess with my scalp too much,” she said, adding that she would cover herself with mesh during performances as well. “You thought you were looking at my skin, but you weren’t. The problem is when you came off stage and you took that stuff off, it came off with the skin,” she added.
