‘SNL 1975’ Finds Its Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, John Belushi Actors

Sony Pictures is presenting the real-life behind-the-scenes depiction of the debut episode of Saturday Night Live in the movie SNL 1975. The film, written by Reitman and Gil Kenan, will feature Lamorne Morris, Dylan O’Brien, Cory Michael Smith, and Matt Wood.

Morris will play Garrett Morris, O’Brien will play Dan Aykroyd, Smith will play Chevy Chase, and Wood will play John Belushi. The night before the first part of SNL aired was a chaotic one, and fans will get to see what happened before “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”

What to expect from ‘SNL 1975’

Jason Blumenfeld, Erica Mills, and Peter Rice will join Reitman and Kenan to produce the screenplay, which features interviews with living cast members. The four comedians to be portrayed were original cast members of the Lorne Michaels-produced show, which is on its 49th season.

The hit comedy original got its name from the fact that it aired on Saturday nights at 11:30 pm EST, which was unusual during its time. It was designed for viewers above the age of 18 and presented topical and political matters in parody form like British television’s That Was the Week That Was show.

Lamorne Morris, who is portraying Garrett Morris in the film, is known for his role in Netflix’s Unstable, where he co-stars alongside Rob Lowe for season two. He was also the lead actor in the cartoonist Keith Knight-inspired hybrid live-action animated Hulu series, Woke. Dylan was in the recently released Ponyboi, which premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival over a week ago.

Cory’s portfolio boasts of a part in the limited Netflix series Transatlantic where he plays Varian Fry opposite Gillian Jacobs and Corey Stoll. Wood has been a Broadway star, featuring in Spongebob Squarepants and the Broadway First National Tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as Augustus Gloop. A combination of these iconic actors for SNL 1975 is sure to bring viewers wit and laughter upon its release.
