Kieran Culkin is celebrating a major victory and milestone in his career, after taking home an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. This follows shortly after another victory, this one winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama, both wins thanks to his performance in Succession.
Kieran has been an industry mainstay for over three decades, ever since his debut film appearance in Home Alone as none other than the brother of Kevin McCallister, played by his real-life brother Macaulay. Kieran also had a memorable role in both Father of the Bride films and a perfect throwback clip from that franchise has gone viral in the wake of his latest victory.
Kieran has received numerous accolades in the form of nominations and wins for Succession, in which he plays the main role of Roman Roy. Leading the charge of Monday’s nominees were also Pedro Pascal from The Last of Us, Jeff Bridges of The Old Man, and Bob Odenkirk for his performance in Better Call Saul. Also up for nomination were Kieran’s Succession co-stars Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong.
In his speech, Kieran thanked Jazz Charton, his “beautiful wife” for “sharing your life with me and for giving me two amazing kids.”
“And Jazz, I want more. You said maybe, if I win!” he teasingly added.
This latest win for Kieran was a meaningful one on multiple fronts. Succession marks the first time a show has earned three nominations in the same year for the drama actor category. Witnessing his first Emmy win were Kieran’s former co-stars from the early days of his career, a fact that has the internet going wild.
On Twitter, a clip is going around showing Kieran in Father of the Bride dressed to the nines for an upcoming wedding. Disregarding his formal attire, Kieran’s Matty Banks pretends to prepare to down the stair railing to land in front of his horrified parents, played by Steve Martin and Diane Keaton, along with the wedding planner Franck, played by Martin Short. Matty cuts the joke off short with a grin before strolling primly down to them.
“The fact that Martin Short and Steve Martin were in the audience when he won last night,” the caption reads. Indeed, both Short and Martin were at the Peacock Theater to watch the big moment. The post and accompanying video have over 1 million views.
