‘The Wonder Years’ Star Danica McKellar Has One Faithful Christmas Wish For Fans

She was a child star and icon of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Today, she’s a sweetheart of Christmas flicks. This holiday season, actress Danica McKellar has just one wish for fans, and it’s all about experiencing the love she enjoys through faith.

In recent years, McKellar departed her usual stomping ground of Hallmark and now appears on Great American Family. She also recently participated in an advent devotional released by Great American Pure Flix. In it, she referenced Biblical text that sums up her own experience with faith and her one wish for everyone this year.

Leading up to the holiday season, Pure Flix has been sharing messages of faith and devotion, which are consistent with the themes shared in their faith and family-based shows and films. For McKellar, she had a very personal message to share.

“My wish this year for Christmas for everyone … is that you can feel — and you will feel — the love and the joy that comes from having that relationship with God,” said McKellar in the advent devotional.

McKellar, who admits she’s “always been a worrier,” then said the heart of that message was “summed up so perfectly” in Philippians 4:5-7. “It says, ‘Don’t worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done … then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus,’” she added.

The most powerful stories are the real ones

It’s said that truth can be stranger than fiction, but it can also be more deeply resonating. For McKellar in particular, coming into religion accompanied by startling peace, comfort, and certainty is something she’s very familiar with. After writing off religion, McKellar attended church with her longtime friend and fellow former child star Candace Cameron Bure, where she had her preconceptions flipped and replaced by devotion.

Specifically, she attended a Passion play with Bure and found that the message shifted the way she viewed religion, its history, and its practitioners. “It just hit me,” she recalled. “Everything hit me. The Holy Spirit came to me. … It was like a wave of love and understanding hit me.”

This now sees McKellar working with GAF and Great American Pure Flix. “Each week, we’re sharing a special message about fulfilling God’s hope for the Christmas season in your personal life,” Pure Flix’s advent devotional site reads.
