Dolly Parton Shares Festive Throwback Photos Just Ahead Of Christmas

Dolly Parton is a fashion icon all through the year, especially during Christmas, which the country singer proved with her recent Instagram post. “I’m always in costume at Christmas. If I’m not in a Santa suit, I wear reds and green,” her caption read.

She posted three photos showing her throwback festive outfits. ”I wear sweaters with Christmas lights on them where I push a button and I light up,” she continued. “My hairdresser, Cheryl Riddle, even puts Christmas lights in my hair for Cookie Night.”

The first slide featured Dolly wearing a sweater and a pair of Santa Claus earrings while holding a toddler. The “Jolene” crooner was having fun decorating cookies and appeared to have powdered sugar or flour on her nose. “I have so many Christmas memories and more that I share in my book Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones,” she added in her caption.

The next photos included a winter wonderland-themed white gown with white fur trim on display and three jumpsuits side by side. All of Dolly’s Claus jumpsuits were red with white trim detail, and one of them had Santa’s broad black belt on it.

Queen of the holidays

Aside from dressing the part, Dolly has contributed her quota to making Christmas more delightful for fans through music and movies. The 77-year-old has appeared on nine holiday specials including Kenny & Dolly: A Christmas to Remember, A Smoky Mountain Christmas, Bob Hope’s Jolly Christmas Show, and Dolly Parton: Christmas at Home.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has released three Christmas albums — Once Upon a Christmas, Home for Christmas, and her latest, A Holly Dolly Christmas. Last year, she humbly rejected the title of “Queen of Christmas” during an interview with Better Homes & Gardens, admitting it was better suited for Mariah Carey. “Now, don’t you say that! I’m not going to compete with Mariah,” she said. “I love her. You think of Christmas, you think of Mariah. I’m happy to be second in line to her.”
