Theory Claims Michelle Died In The ‘Full House’ Finale—Let’s Break It Down

by Peace A

Full House Michelle died

While most people go with Fuller House’s insinuation that Michelle Tanner—played alternately by the Olsen twins—was already dead, some believe she hardly got the chance to grow as she died in the prequel’s finale. Viewers loved Michelle, and her absence in Fuller House was disappointing for fans.

As an excuse, the producer made it out to be that Michelle was away in New York running her fashion business. The first few seasons mentioned her until her name gradually faded over time; however, a season five episode had fans wondering if she was alive.

In the episode “Welcome Home, Baby-to-Be-Named-Later,” Bob Saget’s Danny made a statement to DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy, saying, “It’s so nice to have three daughters again.” This implied that Kimmy had replaced Michelle, further solidifying the fact that she had been long dead.

In the original, Michelle was said to have suffered a head injury and then amnesia after falling off her horse. She never recovered despite her family trying to make her remember, and since there was no conclusion on the state of her health, it is likely she died due to the trauma. The Tanners spent the rest of the final season reminiscing over Michelle to move past the incident.

Why did Michelle never return?

After Full House, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen had other obligations and focused on the fashion industry, running multiple brands. Having not acted for years, they were reluctant to reprise their role, given their many responsibilities. Executive producer Bob Boyett reportedly said that Ashley told him she “didn’t feel comfortable acting,” and Mary-Kate felt the timing was not right.

Aside from disappointed fans, John Stamos was also “heartbroken,” but was proud upon learning about their success as founders of luxury fashion brand, The Row. “We were disappointed, but we understood,” he said on a 2021 episode of Watch What Happens Live. Although the theory that Michelle died earlier than portrayed seems feasible, it has never been addressed by the showrunners and remains a speculation.
