Tony Danza Looks Forward To A 'Who's The Boss' Reboot

Sony Pictures Television announced a revival of the ’80s sitcom Who’s The Boss? three years ago and whilst the network seems to have moved on, Tony Danza still looks forward to it. He did admit to being skeptical about the reboot, but he is on the lookout for one.

During the reunion special for Taxi, an earlier series that put Danza on the map to land a role in Who’s The Boss?, he discussed the sequel with his old castmates. “It’s been up in the ether for so long, I’m hoping it happens now!” he said. “You know, at some point, you’re like ‘Yeah, let’s do it!’ So I’m just waiting to hear like everybody else.”

Danza and Alyssa Milano were supposed to reprise their roles in the new series, with a major focus on Milano’s character, Samantha Micelli. According to Sony, the reboot would “explore generational differences, as well as opposing worldviews and parenting styles within the dynamic of a modern family in 2020.”

Representatives confirmed that the anticipated series was in development at Amazon Freevee with the late Norman Lear to executive produce with Once Day at Time co-producers Mike Royce and Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz. The sequel, if released, will feature the characters 30 years later, with Tony as a retired baseball player and Milano as a single mother.

Will a reboot ever happen?

Per Royce’s 2022 update, the creative materials, which include the pilot script, second episode script, and the show’s bible, have been sent to Freevee’s executives, who are still yet to give a green light. “I’m assuming after the new year, at this point, we’ll learn the fate,” he said.

Should the reboot happen, Danza will certainly play retired Tony; however, cast members like Judith Light and Danny Pintauro are uncertain about their return. “I’m more in a space and time now where I allow things to evolve,” Judith told Comic Book, adding that she would “leave it up to whatever gods there be.”
