Lionel Dahmer supported his infamous serial killer son, Jeffrey Dahmer, up until his death on December 5, 2023. The 87-year-old had been in hospice care and was confirmed dead by an employee at the Medina County Health Department.
Lionel raised Jeffrey on his own after separating from his mother, Joyce, in 1978. He remarried a woman named Shari, who died in January at a nursing home due to health complications, and continued to live a discreet life in his Seville hometown in Ohio, close to the west of Akron.

Jeffrey was accused and charged with the murder of 17 males in Wisconsin and Ohio between 1978 and 1991. He would dismember his victim’s bodies, eat them, keep their bodies as his prize, and even more bizarre and macabre things.

A recently unearthed conversation between father and son on a Fox Nation documentary, My Son Jeffrey: The Dahmer Family Tapes, revealed Jeffrey bragging to Lionel about the bodies he kept in his grandmother’s house, unknown to her. Lionel assumed the box of mummified genitals to be Jeffrey’s porn stash until later during a prison phone call.
“Remember when you visited grandma? Remember that small, one-by-one square foot box? You know what was in it, don’t you?” he told Lionel at the time. “The mummified head and genitals of the last victim at the West Allis location.”
Lionel promised to stand by Jeffrey
Jeffrey was eventually caught one year after leaving his grandmother’s house due to bad behavior and was charged with 15 consecutive life sentences. He would only serve his sentence for three years as he got beaten to death at 34 byinmate Charles Sarver.
Lionel told Oprah on TV that “I still loves my son” and will “always stick by him.” He explained that they grew close during prison visits until Jeffrey’s death, which he never recovered from. “In his final months, he was heavily medicated and had hallucinations about seeing Jeff,” an insider told The US Sun. “He was incoherent and asking if people had seen Jeff.”
