Jamie Foxx is opening up about his prolonged absence from the spotlight as he battled a “medical complication” he suffered back in April. During that period, Fox revealed, he couldn’t walk and, at times, all he could see was the same nothingness ahead of him indefinitely.
Foxx’s daughter Corinne first shared news of his mysterious medical condition in an April 12 Instagram post. She revealed that he had suffered a medical issue the day before but assured fans he was in good hands and was “already on his way to recovery.” It was an uphill battle, however, in the midst of filming Back in Action, and now Foxx is breaking his silence on just what he endured in those unprecedented days.
Foxx made his first public speech since his mysterious medical complications this spring, attending the Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements put on by The Critics Choice Association. There, Foxx received the Vanguard Award and voiced his gratitude that he could even be present that day after so much uncertainty.
Foxx grew emotional as he ascended the stage. “You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago,” Foxx marveled, “I couldn’t actually walk.” His prolonged absence left room for conspiracy theories that he had been cloned and what fans saw was not actually him. Foxx said, “I’m not a clone, I’m not a clone. I know a lot of people who were saying I was cloned out there.
Foxx continued, “I want to thank everybody. I’ve been through something, I’ve been through some things.”
Those “things” rattled Foxx to his core and have left him appreciative for every second he has not just living but also able to do what he wants when he wants. “I cherish every single minute now,” he shared. “It’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over, when you see the tunnel.”
Speaking to the severity of his grief, he added, “I saw the tunnel, I didn’t see the light.”
He went on, “I have a new respect for life. I have a new respect for my art. I watched so many movies and listened to so many songs trying to have the time go by. Don’t give up on your art, man, don’t give up.”
To this day, Foxx’s health battle remains reported as an undisclosed “medical complication” by news outlets, Foxx himself, and his family.
