Tim Burton Teases ‘Beetlejuice 2’ With Set Photos As Filming Wraps Up

After the SAG-AFTRA strike ended in November, production for Beetlejuice 2 quickly resumed and is now finished. Tim Burton announced the wrap-up via Instagram with a photo of the cast and crew, appreciating their work and giving a sneak peek of the set.

The sequel to the ‘80s classic movie has less than two days of filming left before the strike action, which explains the swift conclusion after filming resumed. The set shot featured Tim in the waiting room in the afterlife, where Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis’ characters visited in the original.

Plans for a second part to Beetlejuice started way back in 1990 when Tim pitched Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. The idea was revisited in 2011 when Seth Grahame-Smith was hired to work on a new screenplay; however, it lagged for another decade until Tim, Michael Keaton, and Winona Ryder felt happy enough with the story to return.

Cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos told The Wrap in August that the sequel is centered on family. “At its heart ‘Beetlejuice 2’ is a story about a family,” he said. “And now it’s 30 years later and what are the intricacies and the human condition in keeping a family together all that time set in the craziest world possible?”

Returning and new cast members

Wednesday’s scriptwriters, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, are the masterminds behind the much-anticipated story, with Jenna Ortega joining as Lydia Deetz’s daughter. Catherine O’Hara also returns as Delia Deetz, and Keaton plays the iconic Beetlejuice while Monica Bellucci plays his wife.

Keaton was particularly excited to get into his famous character once again, telling Empire in June that making the film was fun. “‘Beetlejuice’ is the most f—in’ fun you can have working. It’s so fun, it’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie,” he gushed.
